BIOS IGUANA A.C.
Bios Iguana A.C. is a non-governmental and non profit organization that has been active in nature conservation for 13 years. We are the only independent, citizen-based environmental organization in Colima state.
In 1998 we created the Environmental Education Centre for the public in downtown Colima. It includes the “Iguana Museum”, dedicated to sharing knowledge about the biodiversity of this eco-region, as well as a library, video club and an activity room where children are taught ways of caring for the planet Our Centre is also a site for breeding iguanas. These animals are endangered in Mexico, and are a traditional cultural symbol in Colima state.
Bios Iguana A.C. also acts as a guardian; we monitor large industrial projects, especially near wetlands, and verify that environmental laws are respected. When necessary, we legally challenge breaches of these environmental laws.
In reaction to our guardian activities the local government cut off our access to congressional funding. Consequently, after 2 years, we are faced with closing our Environmental Education Centre.
With your help we could stay open. For $1,500.00usd (one thousand and five hundred dollars) for monthly rent and utilities, our survival will be assured! Our organization uses volunteers exclusively: none of this funding would go to wages.
Finally, Bios Iguana A. C. has received national and international recognition for substantial contributions to conservation and environmental education over the last 13 years. Our Environmental Education Centre is vital to our work as educators and protectors of our environment.
Please help us build a positive future for our community . Any donation woul be really helpful.
Thank you for your attention,
